Achieving Bubble-Free Dispersion in High-Viscosity Electronic Pastes for European R&D Lab
Client Overview
Industry: Advanced Electronic Materials & Conductive Pastes
Location: Germany
Application: R&D and pilot batch preparation of silver paste, epoxy resins, and thermal conductive materials
Key Challenge: Micro-air bubbles trapped in high-viscosity formulations causing thermal/electrical insulation failures in end-products
The Challenge: Extreme Viscosity & Trapped Micro-Bubbles
Our client was developing next-generation conductive silver pastes with viscosities exceeding 150,000 cP. During conventional mechanical blade mixing, air was continuously introduced into the mixture. Traditional degassing methods failed to yield satisfactory results:
Internal Voids: Micro-bubbles remained suspended in the ultra-thick paste, leading to circuit voids and unreliable electrical conductivity after curing.
Material Losses: Manual scraping and protracted vacuum oven degassing resulted in volatile liquid evaporation and significant raw material waste.
Cleaning Friction: Impellers and mixing blades required constant solvent cleaning between small batch tests, slowing down daily laboratory workflows.
The Solution: Berlon Vacuum Planetary Centrifugal Mixer
To resolve these technical bottlenecks, the client sent material samples to Shenzhen Berlon Manufacturing Co., Ltd. for empirical validation. Based on rheological analysis, we deployed our Lab-Scale Vacuum Planetary Mixer.
Non-Contact Planetary Motion: The simultaneous revolution and rotation generate hundreds of G-forces, continuously pushing the high-viscosity paste against the container walls without blades or dead spots.
Integrated High-Vacuum System: Sub-atmospheric vacuum pressure (-98 kPa) rapidly draws trapped micro-bubbles to the surface, where extreme shear forces rupture them instantly.
Sealable Disposable Containers: Mixing directly inside sealed laboratory cups eliminated blade cleaning entirely and prevented volatile component loss.
Test Results & Key Outcomes
100% Bubble-Free Quality: Microscopic examination confirmed zero sub-micron air pockets, ensuring stable electrical conductivity and maximum shear strength.
Mixing Time Reduced by 80%: Batch processing time dropped from 45 minutes down to just 3 minutes per run.
Zero Cross-Contamination: Blade-free design meant zero material contact with machine parts, streamlining multi-formulation testing in R&D.
"Berlon’s vacuum planetary mixer eliminated our bubble issues completely within the first test run. The consistency between batches has drastically shortened our product development cycle."
